Petrol to drop by 1 cent: Confirmed fuel prices for South Africa in November 2026
The Central Energy Fund (CEF), on behalf of the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR), announced the official fuel prices for November. The prices of both grades of petrol will decrease. However, compared to previous predictions, the price of 93 ULP/LRP and 95 ULP/LRP will drop by only 1 cent per litre. The price of diesel will see a healthier decrease, however, by R1.10 per litre for 0.05% sulphur and R1.20 per litre for 0.005% sulphur. The price of wholesale illuminating paraffin will decrease by R2.75 per litre.
Despite the recent fuel levy cut – R3 for diesel and R1.50 for petrol until 1 December 2026, and R1.50 and R1 for diesel and petrol, respectively, until 5 January 2027 – the South African government raised the slate levy in the fuel price structure. The slate levy was increased from 87.66 to 135.84 cents per litre, contributing to increases of 48.18 cents per litre in the prices of petrol and diesel. This levy is based on what oil companies pay to import fuel and what motorists pay at the pumps, where the offsets either increase or decrease final fuel prices. Crude oil sits at $98 per barrel at the time of writing.
