Ghana’s Envoy To US Demands Justice – Police Must Find Killers Of 15-Year-Old Boy Shot In Bronx
Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, says he is expecting American police to find the killers of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong.
Javits was shot dead in the Bronx, New York, on Thursday, October 29, while he was walking to school. He was shot in the stomach around 9:20 a.m. near Crotona Park and died later.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, November 2, Ambassador Smith said he believes US investigators will make progress soon.
He said police can use CCTV cameras on the streets around where the boy was killed to identify the attackers.
According to police, three boys believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, wearing masks, are being hunted in connection with the killing. No arrest has been made yet.
Ambassador Smith also said police must investigate whether the killing is linked to bullying.
Javits’ father, Thomas Frimpong, has said his son was being bullied at his school, DreamYard Preparatory School. Police have not confirmed if the bullying is connected to the shooting, but Ghana wants that angle to be looked at properly.
The Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has also spoken to the family and promised that Ghana will work with US authorities to make sure justice is served.
The Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, James Gyakye Quayson, has met with Javits’ mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, to assure her of government’s support.
Ambassador Smith said the Ghanaian mission in New York is in constant contact with the New York Police Department and is following the case closely.
For now, the family and all Ghanaians are waiting for justice for Javits, a boy who came to America with dreams of becoming a doctor, but whose life was cut short on his way to school.
