Nyesom Wike Aide Reacts As Nigerians Were Spotted Taking Photos On Newly Constructed Abuja Road
According to a post shared on his official X account on Monday, November 2, 2026, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the growing attention surrounding the newly constructed Apo-Karshi Road in Abuja after Nigerians were spotted taking photographs along the route.
Olayinka drew attention to the development in a post on X, joking that the road had become a popular location for people to take pictures following its construction.
In his post, he recalled that the road project was initially awarded in 2010 but was abandoned for several years before work resumed.
He wrote: “Nigerians have now turned the newly constructed Apo-Karshi Road, Abuja to another location to take Pictures.
“This road was awarded in 2010, and abandoned.”
The post has highlighted how residents and visitors are making use of the newly constructed road as a backdrop for photographs, with pictures and videos showing people capturing moments along the scenic route circulating on social media.
The Apo-Karshi Road project has a lengthy history, having been awarded in 2010 before remaining incomplete for years.
However, following the termination of the previous contract, the project was re-awarded to SCC Nigeria Limited in November 2025. Construction has since progressed significantly, with the road reportedly nearing completion.
The approximately 13.25 to 13.5-kilometre road forms part of the ongoing infrastructure development and rehabilitation projects being undertaken in the Federal Capital Territory.
Its progress has attracted public attention, particularly among residents who have waited for several years for the important route to be completed and opened to motorists.
Although the road had not been officially commissioned as of the reports cited, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has reportedly indicated that the project is expected to be handed over and commissioned in November or December 2026.
