Ruto-Allied MP From Mt Kenya Trails in Parliamentary Race, Latest Opinion Poll Shows
Ndaragwa MP George Gachagua is trailing in the constituency’s parliamentary race, according to the latest opinion poll conducted by Swiss Poll International.
The survey results released on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, show Kamau Gathungu leading with 25 percent (1,017 votes). He is followed by Ikua Mbote at 20.7 percent (841 votes) and Gitau Njamba at 17.4 percent (708 votes). The incumbent, Gachagua, got 12.1 percent (490 votes), putting him 12.9 percentage points behind the leading candidate.
Kamau Njambi polled 11.5 percent (466 votes), Jakes Macharia Chege 5.3 percent (214 votes), CPA Karoki 4.8 percent (196 votes) and Mwangi Kagwe 1.9 percent (78 votes). Another 1.3 percent (54 respondents) were undecided.
The poll asked respondents whom they would vote for if elections were held today. It had a sample size of 4,064, a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent and a 95 percent confidence level. It did not state when the fieldwork was conducted or how respondents were selected.
Gachagua is serving his first term after being elected in August 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket. He unseated Jeremiah Kioni, who vied on a Jubilee Party ticket.
The Ndaragwa MP is currently aligned with President William Ruto and is a critic of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He was among the MPs who signed the impeachment motion against the former deputy president in October 2024.
Gathungu, who is now leading the race according to the poll, was a close ally of the MP and supported him during the UDA primaries in 2022. He has said he withdrew his support for a second term because the MP participated in the impeachment of the former deputy president.
