Scenes From “Yɛ Gye Yɛn Sika” Demo Organised by NPP’s Youth Wing Sparks Massive Backlash Online

The video, shared on JoyNews’ social media pages, shows supporters in red and black attire gathering at the venue with placards.

One placard read, “A Ministry That Represents Ghana Must Answer to Ghanaians!” Another called for more answers and accountability. Some supporters stood in small groups by the roadside, while others held blank placards.

Soon after the video was posted, social media users began to react. Many questioned the turnout and the purpose of the demonstration. One user, Engr Mawufemo JM, remarked that the placards outnumbered the people. Another, Franklin Dave, said the supporters wanted the public to know they still exist. Sei Ransom said that if the participants were asked, they could not explain why they were there.

Others made light of the event. Some users called the participants comedians, while another asked when the next demonstration would be held. One commenter wondered whether the supporters had no work to go to. A few users also mocked the size of the crowd and the quality of the event.

However, some commenters offered a different view. One user said he supported the demonstration, noting that the participants would at least earn their daily bread. Another suggested the event showed that the government should do more to support young people.

The reactions show how divided public opinion is on the demonstration. While the party’s supporters see it as a way to demand accountability, critics see it as a poorly attended event with no clear message.

At the time of this report, the NPP Youth Wing had not responded to the online criticism. It remains to be seen whether the organisers will address the concerns raised or hold another demonstration.
