Look What Happened To Max Makhanya at MK Party Rally
There have been reports of an arrest in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal, of social media star Max Makhanya. Makhanya is facing charges related to a contentious TikTok video in which he allegedly insulted Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the provincial police commissioner.
Police allegedly detained Makhanya on Sunday, 1 November 2026, when he was at the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s last election rally in KwaMashu, north of Durban, at Princess Magogo Stadium.
Reports connecting his arrest to a video that went viral just before he was detained have gotten him a lot of attention on social media.
It is believed that General Mkhwanazi was questioned by Makhanya in the video on the reason for the police’s conflict with South African civilians. According to the allegations, he also insulted the senior officer.
Despite Makhanya allegedly removing the video from his social media accounts, other users had saved and shared copies, so the contentious tape could still be seen by the public.
Reportedly, after reviewing the footage, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team located Makhanya at the MK Party gathering and detained him.
According to news reports from the area, instigation to violence and crimen injuria are among the charges that are now being investigated. But official police and court testimonies should explain the exact circumstances and charges underlying his detention.
Mlungisi Zondi, head of the Labour and Community Organization, also verified the arrest and allegedly said that attorneys were in touch with Makhanya after his imprisonment.
This news comes as KwaZulu-Natal is gearing up for its local government elections on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, and political parties are ramping up their campaigns in preparation.
At Princess Magogo Stadium, members of the MK Party gathered for the party’s last election event, where party head and ex-South African president Jacob Zuma spoke.
Meanwhile, many are talking about Makhanya’s arrest on social media, with some questioning the legal ramifications of criticising public authorities and others wondering what led to his incarceration.
As of right now, everyone is waiting for the South African Police Service to provide further information and the legal processes to conclude.
Rumour has it that Makhanya will make an appearance at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 2, 2026.
greater information on the inquiry and the accusations against him will undoubtedly bring greater public attention to the matter.
