The Cedi’s Exchange Rate Will Be Kept StableTo Ensure Ghanaians Enjoy Christmas – Dr. Asiamah
According to a report by GHOne TV today being Monday, November 2, 2926, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, has assured Ghanaians that measures are being put in place to maintain the stability of the Cedi ahead of the Christmas festivities.
Dr. Asiama indicated that the central bank is committed to ensuring that the local currency remains stable against major international currencies, particularly the US Dollar, as the country approaches the festive season.
His assurance is aimed at giving businesses, traders and ordinary citizens confidence as economic activities increase towards the end of the year.
Christmas is usually associated with increased spending, higher demand for goods and services, and greater demand for foreign currencies by businesses involved in importing products.
These activities can sometimes put pressure on the exchange rate, making currency stability an important concern for both consumers and business operators.
The BoG Governor’s comments therefore provide reassurance to Ghanaians who are concerned about possible fluctuations in the exchange rate and their impact on the prices of goods and services during the festive period.
A stable Cedi is considered important because significant depreciation of the local currency can increase the cost of imported products, including food items, fuel, household appliances and other essential commodities.
Such increases can place additional financial pressure on households, especially during Christmas when many families make extra purchases.
Dr. Asiama’s assurance also reflects the central bank’s broader responsibility to maintain monetary and financial stability while supporting conditions that encourage economic confidence.
The Bank of Ghana is expected to continue monitoring developments in the foreign exchange market and implementing appropriate measures to manage pressures on the Cedi.
The assurance has raised hopes among consumers and businesses that Ghana will experience a relatively stable exchange rate during the festive season, allowing citizens to celebrate Christmas without additional financial difficulties caused by sharp currency fluctuations.
