“All My Life, I Have Never Been Treated Like This in My Own Country ” Gachagua Opens Up

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has opened up about the extraordinary treatment he received during his recent visit to the United States, leaving many Kenyans talking about the generosity he experienced while abroad.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader described his stay as unforgettable, saying Kenyans living in America went out of their way to make him feel comfortable.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday, November 1, Gachagua recalled how members of the Kenyan diaspora welcomed him and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

He said their kindness went far beyond ordinary hospitality, with some people taking responsibility for almost everything they needed throughout their stay.

According to Gachagua, some supporters brought them food, while others volunteered to cook, wash and iron their clothes.

He further revealed that members of the community took him shopping and bought him jeans and shoes.

What caught his attention most was that he did not have to spend his own money on these activities.

The former Deputy President expressed gratitude to the people who made the visit comfortable, describing their actions as a great sign of love and appreciation.

He also revealed that his nearly two-month stay cost approximately KSh150 million, claiming that the expenses were fully covered through contributions from Kenyans living in the United States.

However, beyond the warm reception, Gachagua said the trip gave him an opportunity to reflect on Kenya’s political situation and the future of the country.

He indicated that his interactions with Kenyans abroad strengthened his determination to build political partnerships ahead of the 2027 General Election.

His latest remarks have now added another interesting chapter to his return from America, with attention turning to what he plans to do next.
