Bafana Star Offered To PSL Giants After Failed Move To Morocco
Kaizer Chiefs could have an opportunity to strengthen their attack with the addition of Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana, who is reportedly available after ending his spell with Tunisian club Esperance de Tunis.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a possible return to South African football, with SABC Sport reporting that his representatives have offered him to Amakhosi. However, there is no confirmation that Chiefs have agreed to sign the winger.
Mokwana’s availability follows the collapse of a proposed move to Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club. The transfer reportedly fell through because of registration complications, leaving the player to consider other options as he searches for his next club.
His name is now being linked with Chiefs, who have been assessing their attacking options under head coach Fernando Da Cruz. Whether the Soweto club will pursue the opportunity remains uncertain.
Mokwana moved to Esperance in August 2024 after leaving Sekhukhune United. His performances in the Premier Soccer League had attracted attention from several clubs, including Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, before he opted for a move to Tunisia.
He made a promising start to life at the North African club, but his career subsequently took him to Saudi Arabia, where he joined Al-Hazem on loan for the 2025/26 season.
Following the end of that loan spell, he returned to Esperance. The relationship between the player and the Tunisian club eventually came to an end, making him available to negotiate a new move.
A return to the Betway Premiership could provide Mokwana with an opportunity to regain regular playing time and strengthen his position in the national team setup. His experience abroad and familiarity with South African football could also make him an interesting option for clubs seeking attacking reinforcements.
For Chiefs, the possibility of signing a Bafana Bafana international comes at a time when the club will be looking to improve its attacking performances. However, supporters will have to wait for further developments before knowing whether Mokwana will become an Amakhosi player.
