ODM Scores Another Political Win as Silas Joins Party Hours After Sakaja’s Defection from UDA
The Orange Democratic Movement has received another political boost after Silas Jakakimba officially ditched the United Democratic Alliance and joined the Orange party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Jakakimba’s entry into ODM comes just hours after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja made headlines following his decision to leave UDA and join the Raila Odinga-founded political outfit, signalling a potentially significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape.
In a welcoming message, ODM celebrated Jakakimba’s decision, describing him as a new member of the party’s growing political family.
“Welcome to the Chama Kubwa, Silas Jakakimba!” the party announced.
According to ODM, Jakakimba has officially transitioned from UDA to pursue his 2027 parliamentary ambition for Suba North Constituency using the party’s ticket.
His decision is expected to inject fresh political energy into the Suba North parliamentary contest as politicians begin positioning themselves for the next General Election.
ODM also highlighted Jakakimba’s longstanding association with the political family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, popularly known as Baba.
The party described his move as a reinforcement of the growing strength of the Broad-Based Government partnership and its commitment to providing a united political platform for Kenyans.
Jakakimba’s defection, coming shortly after Sakaja’s reported political switch, has added another interesting development to the ongoing political realignments ahead of 2027.
The two developments could strengthen ODM’s political presence in different parts of the country, particularly as the party continues expanding its grassroots networks and attracting leaders from other political formations.
ODM further stated that it was focused on consolidating its support across the country while strengthening structures at the grassroots level.
The party expressed optimism about working with Jakakimba and the people of Suba North towards a common political and development agenda.
The latest developments also come at a time when political parties are increasingly positioning themselves for the 2027 elections, with defections and emerging alliances expected to shape the competition.
For Jakakimba, joining ODM provides him with a political platform to pursue his parliamentary ambitions in Suba North.
Meanwhile, Sakaja’s reported move and Jakakimba’s entry have placed ODM’s growing political influence under renewed attention.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, attention will now turn to whether more politicians will follow the same path and join the Orange party in the coming months.
