Ghana Begins Work on National AI Computing Centre — Sam George
byMavis FanteviNovember 2, 20260 Ghana has begun work on a national Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing centre to provide advanced computing, storage and cloud services for government and the country’s technology ecosystem.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, announced this while speaking at the Africa Virtual Assets Summit 2026 in Accra on Monday, November 2.
He described the proposed facility as a sovereign AI-enabled nerve centre that will provide world-class digital infrastructure while ensuring Ghana maintains control over its critical technology systems.
According to Mr George, the centre will serve both government institutions and the wider technology industry, providing computing power, storage capacity and cloud services to support innovation and digital transformation.
He said the initiative would complement the government’s G-Cloud platform, which provides secure local hosting for government, financial and educational institutions.
The minister stressed that sovereign digital infrastructure was essential to Ghana’s ambitions in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, Web3 and tokenization.
He said the country needed secure, reliable and locally controlled infrastructure to support the development of digital products and services.
Mr George added that Ghana was working to create an environment in which local innovators could build technology solutions at home and compete in markets across Africa.
He said investment in digital infrastructure, alongside effective regulation and skills development, would be crucial to building a trusted and competitive virtual asset ecosystem.
