KOPFONTEIN BORDER POST REOPENS: Normal Operations Resume After Temporary Suspension

KOPFONTEIN BORDER POST REOPENS: Normal Operations Resume After Temporary Suspension

The Border Management Authority (BMA) has confirmed that operations at the Kopfontein Port of Entry, which connects South Africa and Botswana, have resumed following a temporary suspension caused by infrastructure challenges.

BMA Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato announced that the border crossing is operational again after interventions were undertaken to address the situation that disrupted activities at the port.

The temporary suspension followed a spillage that affected a residential area adjacent to the port of entry, creating operational difficulties and requiring urgent intervention in consultation with the relevant Botswana authorities.

According to the BMA, engagements with Botswana counterparts and other relevant stakeholders helped address the challenges, allowing normal border operations to resume.

The authority confirmed that processing activities resumed at 06:00 today, with the port operating daily until midnight.

The reopening is expected to provide relief to travellers, transport operators and members of the trading community who rely on the Kopfontein crossing for the movement of people and goods between the two neighbouring countries.

The BMA has assured the public that it will continue working closely with Botswana authorities and other relevant stakeholders to maintain smooth border operations and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods.

Dr Masiapato also expressed appreciation to travellers, transport operators and affected communities for their patience, cooperation and understanding during the temporary suspension.

The authority has urged members of the public to take note of the resumed operating hours when planning their journeys.

The reopening marks the restoration of normal processing activities at one of the key crossing points between South Africa and Botswana.
