Just Hours After Revealing He Would Move to the US If Ruto Is Re-elected, Gachagua Lands in Trouble
Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his remarks that he would relocate to the United States if President William Ruto wins the 2027 General Election.
Kuria questioned Gachagua’s decision to consider moving abroad, arguing that millions of Kenyans do not have the financial ability or opportunity to leave the country when political circumstances become difficult.
In his reaction, Kuria said it was disturbing for a leader who once served as Deputy President to talk about relocating to America while ordinary citizens would have to remain in Kenya regardless of the election outcome.
He challenged Gachagua to consider the situation facing millions of Kenyans who have no alternative homes outside the country.
The remarks came after Gachagua revealed that he could return to his home in the United States if Ruto secures another term in the August 2027 General Election.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader made the declaration during an interview on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi programme on Sunday, November 1.
Gachagua’s comments have attracted attention at a time when political leaders are already engaged in discussions about the 2027 presidential contest and the future of the opposition.
The former Deputy President has been calling on opposition leaders to unite and work together to challenge Ruto’s administration. He has also been involved in efforts to strengthen his political influence in the Mount Kenya region.
However, the latest exchange with Kuria has introduced another debate, with questions emerging about the responsibilities of political leaders towards citizens who cannot afford to relocate abroad.
As the 2027 elections approach, opposition leaders continue facing questions about unity, leadership and their plans for the country.
Will Gachagua respond to Kuria’s criticism, or will the debate end here?
