Njoro Youth Turn Rabbit Urine Into Money as Unusual Farming Business Gains Attention
A group of young entrepreneurs in Njoro, Nakuru County, is attracting attention after turning rabbit urine into an additional source of income through an unconventional farming venture.
The business, known as Ubunifu Agri Enterprise, was founded by Antony Muchira and is operated alongside Chilson Mbehero and Elizabeth Mathu. The group initially ventured into rabbit farming after identifying an opportunity to supply rabbit meat to consumers.
However, they later discovered that rabbit farming could generate income beyond the sale of meat.
According to a report published by the Daily Nation on Monday, November 2, 2026, the entrepreneurs collect rabbit urine and process it for sale to farmers interested in organic agricultural products.
The urine is collected through a specially designed cage system that allows it to drain into a collection point beneath the rabbits. It is then sieved and packaged in locally sourced bottles before being sold to customers.
The group sells one litre of rabbit urine for approximately KSh100. Its customers include farmers in Njoro and Nakuru, as well as an organisation that uses the product in making organic fertiliser.
The entrepreneurs say the product can be used on crops such as potatoes and beans, although farmers are encouraged to follow appropriate application instructions.
The venture demonstrates how young people can identify business opportunities in areas that many people may overlook. Instead of depending entirely on conventional farming products, the group has found another way to generate revenue from an existing agricultural activity.
However, successful rabbit farming requires proper feeding, housing, hygiene, disease prevention and marketing.
The entrepreneurs have also sought training and practical knowledge to improve their farming operations and understand the rabbit value chain.
Their experience highlights the importance of innovation and value addition in agriculture, particularly among young people looking for alternative sources of income.
