Tiktoker Arrested For Allegedly Insulting General Mkhwanazi In Viral Video

In a TikTok video that reportedly incited violence and insulted KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, a man has been arrested.

After a police inquiry into the video posted on the suspect’s TikTok account, he was apprehended on Sunday afternoon, 1 November 2026.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has stated that the video reportedly had aspects of criminal conduct, such as inciting violence and crimen injuria.

Reportedly, upon becoming aware of the footage, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team began an inquiry. Officers eventually tracked the criminal down to KwaMashu’s Princess Magogo Stadium and took him into custody.

Crimen injuria and instigating violence are the allegations that he is scheduled to face when he appears before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 November 2026.

General Mkhwanazi’s remarks and participation in tackling suspected corruption within the criminal justice system have sparked great public controversy, and his arrest comes at a time when this debate is at its height.

But the criminal judicial system will now examine the accusations against the accused.

The presumption of innocence applies to the suspect as it does to all accused individuals unless proven guilty.

The case is anticipated to highlight the limits of free speech, public criticism, and remarks that could be considered criminal behaviour.
