MTN Ghana Pays GH¢9bn in Taxes to State as Profit Reaches GH¢7.8bn in Nine Months

According to a report by MyJoyOnline published on November 1, 2026, MTN Ghana paid GH¢9 billion in direct and indirect taxes to the government during the first nine months of 2026, exceeding the GH¢7.8 billion it recorded as profit after tax over the same period.

The figures, contained in the company’s unaudited financial statements for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, highlight the telecommunications company’s contribution to government revenue.

MTN Ghana’s tax payments increased from GH¢7.3 billion recorded during the corresponding period in 2025 to GH¢9 billion in 2026. The company also paid GH¢533.6 million in fees and levies to various government agencies.

Despite the significant tax payments, the company recorded a 43 per cent increase in profit after tax, rising to GH¢7.8 billion from the previous year’s figure.

The growth was supported by a 33.5 per cent increase in service revenue to GH¢23.2 billion, driven largely by its data, digital and Mobile Money businesses.

Digital revenue also recorded substantial growth, almost doubling by 98 per cent to GH¢642 million. Mobile Money revenue increased by 24.4 per cent to GH¢5.4 billion.

The company’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 40.6 per cent to GH¢14.3 billion, while profit before tax increased by 47 per cent to GH¢11.4 billion.

MTN Ghana also invested GH¢3.2 billion in capital expenditure during the period, including investments aimed at improving network capacity. The company further acquired 5G spectrum in the 700 MHz and 3 GHz bands for US$202 million.

Commenting on the performance, MTN Ghana Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett attributed the results to the resilience and diversification of the company’s business operations.

The company also declared an interim third-quarter dividend of GH¢0.03 per share, with MobileMoney Fintech Limited announcing a similar dividend.

The financial results demonstrate the continued growth of MTN Ghana’s telecommunications and digital financial services operations, alongside its substantial tax contribution to the state.
