The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has strengthened efforts to improve aircraft serviceability and operational readiness following the graduation of engineering and armament technicians of the 403 Flying Training School (403 FTS), Kano, from specialised technical courses.

The training, which concluded on October 29, 2026, focused on improving personnel proficiency in aircraft maintenance and sustaining the operational capabilities of the Air Force’s L-39ZA aircraft.

The Air Officer Commanding, Air Training Command, Air Vice Marshal EP Efanga, who attended the graduation ceremony as Special Guest of Honour, described the development of in-house technical expertise as essential to maintaining a competent and mission-ready workforce.

Efanga said the initiative aligned with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, particularly the key driver of Standardised Training and Mission-Focused Capability Development.

He explained that the philosophy emphasised standardisation, mentorship and practical instruction to strengthen the technical capabilities of NAF personnel.

The AOC congratulated the graduating technicians and urged them to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills to improving aircraft maintenance standards, safety and serviceability.

Earlier, the Commander of 403 Flying Training School, Group Captain U Ihediwa, described the specialised training as a strategic investment in technical competence and safe aircraft operations.

He stressed the importance of equipping personnel with the expertise required to sustain aircraft and support the operational responsibilities of the Nigerian Air Force.

The Air Force said the initiative reflected its recognition that effective airpower depended not only on aircraft availability but also on skilled technicians capable of maintaining and sustaining them.

It added that continuous investment in technical training would strengthen mission assurance, improve aircraft reliability and enhance the NAF’s capacity to support national security operations.
