Two Techiman SHS Teachers Arrested After Viral Video Shows 17-Year-Old Student Being Assaulted
The Ghana Police Service has arrested two teachers of Techiman Senior High School following the circulation of a viral video showing the alleged assault of a 17-year-old male student.
The suspects have been identified as 37-year-old Jerry Jones Owusu Bekoe and 44-year-old Ameyaw Adusa. They were arrested on November 1, 2026, and taken into police custody to assist with investigations into the incident.
According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred on October 23, 2026, after the teachers allegedly confronted the Form Three student over claims that he had attacked two Form One students.
The confrontation reportedly escalated into an assault, which was captured in a video that subsequently circulated widely on social media, drawing public attention and concern over the treatment of students within educational institutions.
The footage prompted questions about the conduct of the teachers and the appropriate procedures for handling disciplinary issues in schools.
The arrest of the two educators marks a significant development in the police investigation, as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the roles played by the individuals involved.
The case has also renewed discussions about student protection, teacher accountability and the use of physical punishment in schools. While teachers have a responsibility to maintain discipline and ensure order, allegations of physical abuse raise serious concerns about students’ safety and welfare.
Police have indicated that the two suspects are being held to assist with investigations. Their arrest does not, however, amount to a determination of guilt, as the matter remains subject to the investigative and legal process.
Further details about the condition of the student, the identities of the two Form One students and whether additional disciplinary action will be taken by school authorities have not yet been provided.
The Ghana Police Service is expected to continue its investigations to establish the facts and take the appropriate action based on its findings.
