The shooting happened at about 8.50am on Sunday, November 1, when both victims were wounded and taken to a medical facility.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg later confirmed that the 21-year-old had died in hospital.

“This office can confirm that the victim passed away in hospital,” said Twigg.

A Belhar Police Forum member said the man had been shot in the head and upper body.

“When I came from the Buren Lane shooting incident, the guy was still alive, but he was shot in the head and upper body. When I left it looked like he was not going to make it because Fire and Rescue said he isn’t responsive,” the member said.

The forum member also said the 13-year-old had been shot in the stomach and taken to Tygerberg Hospital.

Asked whether the boy was an innocent bystander, the member said he was apparently on his way to the shop.

Belhar police registered two counts of attempted murder following the Sunday morning shooting.

“Police members were called to the crime scene where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. Both victims were transported to a medical facility for treatment,” said Twigg.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made.”

The shooting came a night after a separate attack in Belhar Drive, next to a petrol station, at about 9.45pm on Saturday, October 31.

A 32-year-old man was shot in the lower back and taken to hospital.

A Belhar Police Forum member said multiple shots had been fired and that the neighbourhood watch had confirmed the incident was gang-related.

Police registered an attempted murder case, but said the motive was still being investigated and the suspect or suspects had fled the scene.
