Kenyans React as Details Emerge on the Only Opposition Leader Ruto Admitted Could Send Him Home
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has renewed his political challenge to President William Ruto as fresh political exchanges continue to shape the race ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo’s remarks come at a time when several leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration have openly called on him to abandon the opposition and work with President Ruto.
The former Vice President has, however, maintained that he has no plans to join the government, insisting that he wants to face the Head of State in the presidential contest.
On Sunday, November 1, Kalonzo addressed worshippers at AIC Kyemutheke Church in Kyumvi, Machakos County, where he rejected the calls to work with Ruto’s administration.
He questioned why government leaders were asking him to join a team whose leader had already identified him as a major political rival.
Kalonzo also argued that millions of Kenyans were facing difficulties under the current administration, making it difficult for him to support the government.
His latest position follows public appeals by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and President’s aide Farouk Kibet, who have urged him to consider working with Ruto.
Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has also suggested that Kalonzo could face difficulties securing the opposition’s presidential ticket, arguing that joining the government could offer him another political opportunity.
However, the Wiper leader has remained firm, saying he wants to meet Ruto at the ballot rather than join his administration.
