“I Will Be An ANC Member Until I Die” Jacob Zuma Declared During His Speech Today, Check Out

Former South African president and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader Jacob Zuma has declared that he will remain a member of the African National Congress (ANC) until his death, despite currently leading a political organisation that is competing against his former party.

Zuma made the remarks while addressing MK Party supporters at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, Durban, where the party held its final election rally ahead of the opening of polls on Monday.

Speaking before a gathering of supporters, Zuma stated: “I will be an ANC member until I die.”

His statement has drawn attention because of the complicated political relationship between Zuma and the ANC, an organisation with which he has been associated for decades and which he once led as South Africa’s president.

Zuma’s political journey has been closely linked to the ANC, where he held several senior leadership positions, including serving as party president from 2007 to 2017 and as president of South Africa from 2009 to 2018.

However, his relationship with the governing party deteriorated following his departure from the presidency and subsequent internal political disagreements.

The former president later became the central figure behind the establishment of the MK Party, which emerged as a significant political force and contested the 2024 general elections.

His decision to lead the MK Party placed him in direct political competition with the ANC, the same organisation he had served for much of his political life.

Nevertheless, Zuma’s latest declaration suggests that he continues to identify strongly with the ANC, even while campaigning under the banner of a rival political movement.

The KwaMashu rally formed part of the MK Party’s final campaign activities before voters head to the polls. It provided Zuma and other party leaders with an opportunity to address supporters, reinforce their campaign messages and encourage participation in the electoral process.

The choice of words is particularly significant given the longstanding political history between Zuma and the ANC. While he now leads the MK Party, his public declaration indicates that he does not regard his historical association with the ANC as something he intends to abandon.

His remarks also come at a time when South Africa’s political landscape continues to experience changes, with the MK Party seeking to strengthen its presence while the ANC campaigns to maintain its political support.

Zuma’s statement is therefore likely to attract further discussion about his political identity, his relationship with the ANC and the ideological connections between his former party and the MK Party.

For now, the former president has made his position clear: despite leading the MK Party, he says he will remain an ANC member until the end of his life.
