Kindiki Flies Out of Kenya to Represent Ruto at 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has departed Nairobi for Antigua and Barbuda, where he will represent President William Ruto at the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Kindiki is expected to join other world leaders and government representatives at the high-level diplomatic gathering scheduled to take place in St John’s from November 1 to 4, 2026.

The meeting brings together leaders from the Commonwealth’s 56 member states, representing a combined population of approximately 2.7 billion people across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Europe.

In his statement announcing the departure, Kindiki said Kenya would use the international forum to advance its strategic national interests, strengthen diplomatic relationships and position itself as a stable and attractive investment destination.

He noted that the meeting would provide Kenya with an important opportunity to expand its engagement with member states and seek stronger international support for its development priorities.

The Deputy President said Kenya would also use the platform to advance its position on the need for collective responses to global challenges, while strengthening partnerships with countries capable of supporting its economic transformation agenda.

The diplomatic engagement will involve plenary sessions, side events and bilateral meetings, through which Kenya hopes to open additional opportunities for local businesses and attract foreign investments.

Kindiki explained that the government would be seeking partnerships that could bring capital, modern technology and specialised skills needed to accelerate the country’s development.

The meeting is also expected to provide Kenya with an opportunity to showcase its economic potential, political stability and investment opportunities to international partners.

Kenya’s participation comes as the Ruto administration continues to pursue foreign investment, expand international trade and strengthen economic cooperation as part of its broader development agenda.

Through the engagement, Nairobi hopes to establish stronger connections with Commonwealth countries and create opportunities that can benefit Kenyan businesses, investors and the wider economy.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is a major international gathering held every two years, bringing together member states to discuss shared challenges, cooperation and priorities affecting the organisation.
