40kg of cocaine from Ghana busted in Beirut

A Syrian national has been arrested at the Rafic Hariri International Airport carrying 40 kg of cocaine.

According to reports, the Syrian national was arrested upon his arrival at the Rafic Hariri International Airport from the Accra International Airport.

Reports say he had been under surveillance and monitoring from his departure until he arrived in Lebanon.

Upon his arrival, General Security investigation elements monitored him at the airport from the moment he disembarked from the plane until he collected his two bags, before coordinating with Customs to search him.

The search resulted in the seizure of 40 boxes, each containing one kilogram of cocaine, in addition to electronic tracking devices (AirTags) equipped within the packages.

The suspect has since been arrested and the substance impounded as investigations continue.
