Bad News for Sifuna and Gachagua as Kalonzo Makes This Bold Move Ahead of 2027 – Details

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sent a message to President William Ruto after renewed calls for him to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Sunday, November 1, during a church service at AIC Kyemutheke Church in Kyumvi, Machakos County, Kalonzo dismissed the efforts to bring him into government. He told Ruto, “tukutane kwa debe,” signalling that he wants their contest decided by voters.

The former Vice President said he would not join an administration he accused of causing suffering and injustice. He maintained that his focus remains on seeking the presidency rather than supporting Ruto’s re-election bid.

His remarks came after several leaders allied to the government urged him to leave the opposition and work with the President. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said Kalonzo would be respected in government, while Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot argued that the opposition was unlikely to defeat Ruto in 2027. Ruto has also recalled that he campaigned for Kalonzo in the 1992 Mwingi North parliamentary race and suggested that the Wiper leader should return the favour.

However, Kalonzo rejected the appeal, saying Kenyans were facing high living costs and heavy taxation. He also pointed to concerns over corruption, abductions and killings, issues he said needed to be addressed.

The Wiper leader further promised that, if elected President, improving the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway would be among his priorities, citing lives lost in road accidents along the route.

Kalonzo is among opposition figures positioning themselves to challenge Ruto in the next election. The opposition has yet to settle on one presidential candidate, with Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, Edwin Sifuna and other leaders also being mentioned in the contest.

His latest statement is likely to intensify debate over opposition unity and the race for the 2027 presidency.
