“My players Are Not In The Same Level With Pirates Players, They Have More Experience” Da Cruz Says

Fernando Da Cruz has openly admitted that his players struggled to compete with Orlando Pirates, pointing to the Buccaneers’ superior experience, fitness and ability to maintain intensity throughout the match.

The coach made the admission while reflecting on his team’s defeat to the Soweto giants, acknowledging that there was a noticeable difference between the two sides in terms of physical condition and experience.

According to Da Cruz, Orlando Pirates had an advantage because their players were better equipped to cope with the demands of the encounter. He explained that his team initially attempted to match the Buccaneers’ intensity but eventually struggled as fatigue began to affect their performance.

“My players are not at the same level as Orlando Pirates players. Pirates defeated us because of experience and fitness. My players got tired and couldn’t deal with Pirates’ intensity,” Da Cruz said.

His comments suggest that the physical demands of facing Orlando Pirates exposed some weaknesses within his squad, particularly their ability to maintain a high tempo for the entire match.

Pirates’ intensity proved difficult to handle, with Da Cruz acknowledging that his players lacked the necessary fitness and experience to compete effectively against their opponents.

The coach’s assessment also highlights the difference that experience can make in high-pressure football matches. While technical ability and tactical preparation remain important, players must also possess the physical endurance to sustain their performance when facing opponents who consistently apply pressure.

For Da Cruz, the defeat presents an opportunity to identify areas that require improvement within his squad. Improving the players’ physical conditioning, building match experience and developing their ability to withstand sustained pressure will be important priorities going forward.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates will take confidence from the performance, having demonstrated the intensity and experience that Da Cruz believes made the difference between the two teams.

The coach’s honest assessment has also drawn attention to the challenge facing his team as they seek to close the gap against established opponents in South African football.
