ODM Is Still Strong and the Maa Nation Is in Government to Stay – Ledama Olekina

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) while ensuring that the Maa community remains represented in Kenya’s national leadership and development agenda.

In a statement following a major gathering at Jacaranda Grounds, Olekina celebrated the turnout, describing it as evidence that ODM remains a strong political force with considerable support across the country. The event, which was attended by thousands of supporters, also marked the conclusion of a month-long celebration of the legacy of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Olekina attended the gathering alongside Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho and other political leaders. He noted that Raila’s influence continues to inspire supporters and political leaders, adding that the principles associated with his leadership remain relevant in the country’s political landscape.

The Narok senator maintained that ODM should not be viewed as a political movement whose influence belongs to the past. Instead, he described the party as an active and united organisation preparing for future political and national responsibilities.

His remarks come at a time when political alignments and discussions about the country’s future leadership continue to attract attention ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Olekina also used the occasion to highlight his responsibilities as the Maasai Broad-Based point person. He said his priority was to ensure that the Maa community is not sidelined in national decision-making, development programmes and leadership opportunities.

The senator further expressed support for working with President William Ruto and leaders such as Joho, saying their collective responsibility should include promoting national unity, protecting resources and delivering meaningful development.ο»Ώ

His declaration that Narok and the wider Maa community are firmly within government signals his intention to maintain the community’s involvement in the country’s current political and governance arrangements.

The statement adds another dimension to the ongoing conversation about ODM’s political direction, its relationship with the broad-based government and the representation of different communities.
