“Let’s give a moment of silence” –A Boogie wit Da Hoodie honours slain Ghanaian teen Javits on Stage

According to a report by Ghanaweb on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Bronx-born rapper A Boogie wit Da Hoodie interrupted a recent concert to honour Javits Frimpong, the 15-year-old Ghanaian student shot dead in New York.

A video of the moment is circulating online. It shows the artiste addressing the audience while a photograph of the teenager appears on the large screen behind him. He told the crowd that the boy had arrived in the United States from Africa only about a year earlier and had died from a gunshot wound. He then asked everyone to observe a moment of silence, and the venue went quiet before he returned to his set.

Javits’ death has drawn grief and anger in both New York and Ghana. He had moved from Ghana to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, and was killed almost exactly a year after that move. He was walking to DreamYard Preparatory School in the Claremont area of the Bronx when he was shot in the abdomen. Emergency crews took him to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His father has since said Javits had been bullied at school. According to him, the principal suspended two students only days before the shooting, after a confrontation in which Javits had been defending himself.

The New York Police Department is searching for three teenage suspects in connection with the killing. Community leaders and activists have called for swift accountability, and Ghanaian officials have joined them. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is among those who have condemned the violence.

A Boogie’s tribute adds a prominent voice from the teenager’s adopted borough to the public mourning, and it has spread widely on social media as Ghanaians continue to ask for justice for a boy who had barely begun a new life abroad.
