The agency announced the development on Saturday, October 31, 2026, saying samples were being tested to determine whether the individuals had contracted the disease. It also confirmed that health officials had begun identifying and listing people who may have been exposed.

NCDC urged Nigerians to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities. It added that further updates would be provided as verified information became available.

The announcement comes amid Nigeria’s response to a confirmed case of Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on October 20 that the infection was confirmed in a woman with a recent travel history to Uganda, who sought medical attention in Abuja.

According to WHO, the woman’s symptoms began on October 7, and laboratory tests confirmed the infection on October 20. At the time of the announcement, 44 contacts had been identified for monitoring, while the NCDC had activated its incident management system to coordinate the response.

In its October 29 situation report, the NCDC said the confirmed patient had been evacuated to Switzerland on October 26.

It also reported that 62 contacts linked to the confirmed case had been identified and were being monitored.

A separate suspected case reported in Enugu had tested negative.

The two newly reported cases in the North-East remain suspected infections and have not been confirmed by laboratory tests.

NCDC has not disclosed the states where the individuals were identified or their possible sources of exposure.
