Ghana’s US Ambassador Mourns Javits Frimpong, Calls for Impartial Investigation
According to a report by Channel One News published on October 31, 2026, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, describing the incident as a painful tragedy that no parent should ever have to experience.
In a condolence message addressed to the teenager’s father, Thomas Frimpong, the Ambassador extended sympathy on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the government and people of Ghana, as well as the Ghanaian diplomatic community in the United States.
Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith said he could only imagine the pain and anguish the family was experiencing following the loss of their son under such tragic circumstances.
He disclosed that Javits had moved to the United States barely a year ago after his father brought him there in the hope of providing him with a good education and a brighter future. He described the teenager’s death as particularly heartbreaking because of the hopes and aspirations his family had for him.
The Ambassador also raised concerns about reports that Javits had experienced racial bullying at school before his death. He called for all relevant circumstances surrounding the incident to be examined carefully and impartially.
He urged the appropriate law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, establish the facts, identify those responsible and ensure that justice is served.
Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith further stressed the need to protect children against bullying, racial discrimination and violence, regardless of their race, nationality or background.
He described Javits as more than a son to his family, noting that he was also a young Ghanaian whose life and future mattered to the country.
Javits was fatally shot on the morning of Thursday, October 29, while walking to school in the Bronx, New York. He was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
The Ambassador assured the bereaved family that the Ghanaian Embassy shared in their grief and stood in solidarity with them during the difficult period.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pledged to work with United States authorities to pursue justice for the teenager.
