Today’s Headlines:Tinubu Now In Panic Mode-ADC, US Judge Bars Justice Dept From Threatening election Officials

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has accused President Bola Tinubu of going into panic mode ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the Federal Government’s proposed N50,000 monthly cash relief as an election gimmick.

The opposition party alleged that the announcement was driven by Tinubu’s desperation to regain public support following the party’s promise to reduce the cost of living and make life more affordable for Nigerians if elected in 2027.

The ADC stated this in a press statement issued on Saturday, October 31, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

A US federal judge temporarily blocked on Friday the Justice Department from threatening state and local election officials with criminal prosecution if they fail to comply with its directives on processing ballots.

The order by Judge Trina Thompson in the Northern District of California deals a setback to Trump administration efforts to restrict voting by people it says might not be US citizens in the November 3 midterm elections.

The harshly worded temporary restraining order was issued in response to a case brought by labor union and civil rights groups against the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security.

“Defendants shall not threaten, intimidate or coerce state or local elections officials or workers to demand that they halt processing the ballots of any registered voter solely on the basis that the ballot belongs to an individual alleged by Defendants to be ineligible to vote,” Thompson wrote.

Kwara State Government has approved the 2026 bursary award for eligible indigenes of the state studying in tertiary institutions across the country, in a move aimed at easing the financial burden of higher education on students and their families.

The management of the Kwara State Scholarship Board, which announced the approval in a statement on Saturday, said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the intervention as part of his administration’s efforts to support students of Kwara origin.

“Application portal for the scheme will open on Monday, November 2, 2026, and close on Monday, November 16, 2026,” the approval noted.

The board urged eligible students to take advantage of the application window, directing them to visit the official portal at scholarship.kwarastate.gov.ng to complete and submit their applications.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the reported attack on the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, in Ekiti State and a separate incident involving supporters of the African Democratic Congress in Sokoto State.

Atiku described the incidents as “deeply troubling and unacceptable” in a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress of intimidating opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Vice-President also called for immediate and transparent investigations into the incidents, alleging that political enforcers and thugs loyal to the ruling party were targeting opposition leaders and supporters.

“The continued attacks on opposition figures and the unexplained disappearance of critical social media influencers are clear red flags of a dangerous slide toward a censored state where the opposition is crushed by the brute force of the current government,” Atiku said.
