Akwatia MP Calls Dennis Miracles Aboagye a Thief During Newsfile Debate

A heated exchange erupted on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after Akwatia Member of Parliament Bernard Bediako Baidoo reportedly described NPP National Communications Director Dennis Miracles Aboagye as a thief.

The confrontation occurred during a discussion on illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey, which has remained a major national concern.

During the heated debate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo made a serious allegation against Aboagye, accusing him of stealing GH¢55 million belonging to the state.

The comment reportedly intensified tensions between the two political figures as the discussion moved beyond the central issue of illegal mining.

The exchange has attracted attention because of the serious nature of the accusation and the personalities involved. Both individuals are associated with Ghana’s political discourse, making their confrontation a subject of public interest.

The GH¢55 million allegation is particularly significant, as it raises questions about accountability and the management of public funds. However, the accusation was made during the television discussion and should not be treated as an established finding of wrongdoing.

The incident has also generated discussions about the increasingly heated nature of political debates on national television, especially when issues involving corruption, public resources and governance are raised.

Newsfile, hosted by JoyNews, regularly brings together politicians, analysts and other public figures to discuss important national issues.

The latest confrontation has added another talking point to the programme, with attention likely to focus on the response of Dennis Miracles Aboagye and whether he will address the allegation made against him.

Meanwhile, the broader discussion about galamsey continues to dominate Ghana’s political conversation.
