Ramaphosa Tells the Truth About His Alleged Connection With Hangwani Maumela After Viral Video

President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his profound concern regarding the corruption allegations against businessman Hangwani Maumela, stating that he is profoundly disturbed by the information that has been disclosed.

Ramaphosa asserted during a public engagement that he has neither a personal nor professional relationship with Maumela, who is accused of obtaining benefits from questionable contracts associated with government funds. The President denied any allegations that he visits or associates with Maumela, stating that he only passes by the businessman’s residence during his routine strolls.

“Should I engage with him?” False. Is it necessary for me to encounter him and engage in conversation? False. Am I permitted to attend him at his residence? “No,” Ramaphosa declared emphatically. He subsequently expressed his disappointment with the allegations, stating, “Am I appalled by the accusations that are being levelled against him?” Indeed. Appalled.

Ramaphosa acknowledged that he was cognisant of the reports that suggested the luxury home in question may have been constructed with funds that were not obtained in an appropriate manner. “I am aware that the house in question was constructed with funds that were not properly acquired, as is purported.” He stated that the funds should have been allocated to the well-being of our populace.

He commended the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) for its intervention in the investigation, asserting that corruption must be addressed with urgency and determination. “The SIU has taken action, and I commend them for it,” the President stated.

The comments were made in response to a video that was shared on social media, which depicted Ramaphosa pacing outside the residence of Maumela with DJ Tbo Touch and Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Jomo Sibiya. The President’s association with the businessman accused of corruption was the subject of speculation following the release of the recording.

Vincent Magwenya, the presidential spokesperson, previously clarified that the video was captured during one of Ramaphosa’s routine fitness outings, which he frequently conducts in public. Magwenya underscored that the President’s passing by of Maumela’s residence did not indicate any form of relationship between the two.

In light of the increasing public outrage regarding corruption in the health sector of the country, Ramaphosa’s statements seem to be an attempt to establish a distinct distinction between himself and Maumela. The President’s statement also serves to underscore his dedication to the SIU’s efforts to recover misappropriated public funds and hold those responsible accountable.
