Rent Control To Undergo Reforms, Upgrade Code Of Ethics For Managers – Rent Commissioner

According to a report by Adom FM yesterday which was Friday, October 30, 2026, the Rent Control Department is preparing to introduce a series of reforms aimed at improving its operations and strengthening professional standards within Ghana’s rental housing sector, according to the Rent Commissioner.

The planned reforms are expected to address challenges affecting the rental market while promoting greater accountability, transparency and professionalism among individuals responsible for managing rental properties.

The initiative is also intended to improve the relationship between landlords, property managers and tenants.

The Rent Commissioner indicated that upgrading the existing code of ethics for property managers would form an important part of the proposed changes. The move is expected to establish clearer professional guidelines and ensure that property managers conduct their activities in accordance with acceptable standards.

Property managers play an important role in the housing sector, particularly in overseeing rental properties, collecting rent and facilitating communication between landlords and tenants. However, concerns about certain practices within the industry have increased the need for stronger regulations and ethical standards.

The proposed reforms are therefore expected to provide a framework for addressing misconduct, improving service delivery and protecting the interests of people who depend on rental accommodation.

The department’s efforts also reflect the importance of creating a more organised rental housing system where the rights and responsibilities of all parties are properly recognised.

If successfully implemented, the reforms could contribute to improving confidence in the rental market and ensuring that property management services meet the expectations of landlords and tenants.

The Rent Control Department is expected to continue working towards strengthening its regulatory responsibilities as part of broader efforts to improve Ghana’s housing and rental management system.
