German-Ghanaian forward Aaron Opoku found the back of the net but could not prevent Eintracht Braunschweig from suffering a 3-1 defeat against Arminia Bielefeld in the German 2. Bundesliga.
Opoku scored in the 55th minute at the SchücoArena, briefly giving Braunschweig hope of mounting a comeback after falling two goals behind in the first half.
Arminia Bielefeld started brightly and took the lead in the 24th minute through Maximilian Großer, who headed home a cross from Arne Sicker.
The hosts doubled their advantage three minutes later when Joel Grodowski finished Jannik Rochelt’s delivery to put Bielefeld firmly in control.
Braunschweig coach Lars Kornetka made three substitutions at half-time in an attempt to change the course of the encounter.
The visitors responded positively, with Opoku reducing the deficit after receiving a pass from Max Marie before firing a powerful effort into the bottom-left corner.
However, Bielefeld restored their two-goal advantage in the 68th minute when Grodowski completed his brace, converting Monju Momuluh’s assist.
Opoku was substituted in the 77th minute after an encouraging individual performance.
The defeat marked another setback for Braunschweig, while Bielefeld moved to 14 points in the league standings.
