Percy Tau’s Potential Move to Al-Ittihad Alexandria Remains Uncertain

Egyptian club Al-Ittihad Alexandria are reportedly considering a move for South African forward Percy Tau, although the chances of completing the transfer remain uncertain as the club’s final decision is expected to depend heavily on head coach Hamza Al-Jamal.

According to reports surrounding the potential transfer, the likelihood of Al-Ittihad Alexandria signing the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly attacker currently stands at no more than 40 per cent. This suggests that while the Egyptian side have not completely ruled out the possibility of bringing him to the club, an agreement is far from guaranteed.

The report stated: “The percentage of Al-Ittihad Alexandria signing Percy Tau does not exceed 40% and depends on Hamza Al-Jamal’s decision.”

Al-Jamal’s position is expected to play a significant role in determining whether the club proceeds with negotiations. His assessment of the player’s qualities, current form and suitability for the team’s tactical plans could ultimately influence the outcome.

The proposed move is reportedly being explored ahead of the January transfer window, when Al-Ittihad are expected to assess possible additions to improve their squad for the remainder of the season.

Importantly, Percy Tau has not yet entered formal negotiations with the Alexandria-based club. His name was reportedly presented to the club’s officials through a prominent Egyptian football agent, rather than following an official request from the club’s management.

Tau previously enjoyed considerable success in Egypt during his time with Al Ahly, where he won major domestic and continental honours, including two CAF Champions League titles. His experience in Egyptian football could make him an attractive option if Al-Ittihad decide to pursue his signature.

However, with the possibility of the transfer currently estimated at just 40 per cent, the South African international will have to wait for the club’s technical leadership to determine whether he fits into their plans.

For now, there is no confirmed agreement, and Hamza Al-Jamal’s decision could prove decisive in determining whether Tau makes a return to Egyptian football.
