Today’s Headlines:We won’t approve Tinubu’s loan requests just like that – Oshiomhole, Trump cancels weekend rallies, plans to phone in to other midterm campaign events

Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has said that the Senate would not just approve the fresh loan request from President Bola Tinubu without proper scrutiny.

Oshiomhole made this statement on Friday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show.

He was reacting to the President’s fresh external borrowing plan, stating that the National Assembly will thoroughly examine the request before giving approval.

Recall that President Tinubu on Tuesday sought the approval of the National Assembly for fresh $20.5 billion and €1.04 billion external loans to fund critical projects across the country.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday canceled planned weekend campaign stops in Kansas and Iowa, and his allies said he would instead phone in to rallies nationwide after four weeks ‌of travel to boost Republicans’ election chances.

Trump told reporters he did not “feel like I have to go to Kansas,” a Midwestern state where Senator Roger Marshall, a fellow Republican, is in an unexpectedly competitive race with Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton. “He is doing very well,” Trump said of Marshall. “We are going to have a strong Tuesday night.”

A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday for talks with Iranian officials, state media reported, as mediators press efforts to revive peace talks with the United States.

According to the IRNA state news agency, the delegation, headed by a senior adviser to Qatar’s prime minister, came to discuss “bilateral relations… as well as regional developments” with senior Iranian officials.

Senior officials from several countries have flown to Tehran in recent days as fears rise of a return to hostilities in the Middle East war, which started eight months ago.

The reported Qatari visit came a day after Iranian media said Iran had received a letter from US Vice President JD Vance addressed to security chief Mohsen Rezaei.

A 29-year-old Nigerian man, James Abiwon, has died after a tree fell on his car during Storm Boelo in Mill Hill, north London.

According to Metro UK, Abiwon was driving along Dollis Road at about 12.30pm on Sunday when the tree came down in strong winds. Emergency crews, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics and an air ambulance, responded, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His cousin, Tyrrell Okolo, described him as “a master of everything” and a devoted family man. Abiwon was a tech sales executive who had earned a degree from the University of Essex. He was also a semi-professional footballer with Aldershot, a musician with about 40,000 YouTube viewers and a mentor to many, his cousin said.
