“Complete La General Hospital Before January 2028” – Health Minister Akandoh Warns Contractors

According to a report by UTV Ghana on Friday October 30, 2026, the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has visited the construction site of the La General Hospital to inspect the progress of work on the €50 million project.

During the visit, the Health Minister assessed the ongoing construction activities and urged the contractors to speed up the work to ensure that the project is completed on schedule. He stressed the importance of completing the hospital within the agreed timeframe to enable the facility to serve the healthcare needs of the people.

The La General Hospital project is an important development in Ghana’s healthcare sector. Its completion is expected to improve access to quality healthcare services, particularly for residents of La and surrounding communities in the Greater Accra Region.

The project has attracted considerable attention because of its importance to the country’s healthcare infrastructure. The hospital is expected to provide modern medical facilities and create a better environment for healthcare professionals to deliver essential services to patients.

Mr Akandoh’s visit forms part of efforts by the Ministry of Health to monitor major healthcare projects and ensure that contractors meet their responsibilities. His call for an accelerated pace of work also highlights the government’s expectation that the project will be delivered without unnecessary delays.

The hospital is currently expected to be commissioned in January 2028. This means that the contractors must maintain the required pace and ensure that all remaining construction activities are completed before the scheduled date.

The completion of the La General Hospital is expected to be a major boost to healthcare delivery in the area. Many residents will be looking forward to the reopening of the facility to access medical services closer to their homes.

The Health Minister’s inspection has therefore renewed attention on the project, with expectations that the contractors will work towards meeting the January 2028 commissioning deadline.
