Stephanie Benson Says Small Gestures Keep Marriages Strong

Ghanaian-British singer Stephanie Benson has highlighted the importance of emotional support, affection and mutual respect in marriage, insisting that a man’s financial strength alone does not determine whether he is a good husband.

Speaking on Onua ShowTime during a discussion about relationships and marriage, the singer explained that although providing for the family is important, husbands must also make deliberate efforts to ensure their wives feel loved, appreciated and respected.

She challenged traditional expectations that place most domestic responsibilities on women, noting that women are equally capable of raising children, managing businesses, pursuing careers and contributing financially to their households.

According to her, women should be given the freedom and support to achieve their ambitions rather than being confined to conventional household roles.

Addressing the qualities of a good husband, Benson maintained that financial security should not be the only measure of a man’s contribution to marriage. She said affection, good communication, thoughtfulness and attentiveness are equally necessary for a healthy relationship.

She explained that making a woman feel appreciated does not always require expensive presents or luxurious holidays. Simple gestures, such as preparing breakfast, checking on one’s partner, listening to her concerns and spending meaningful time together, can make a significant difference.

The singer also reflected on her own marriage, previously praising her husband, John, for consistently demonstrating affection through thoughtful everyday actions.

She disclosed that his habit of preparing breakfast, calling before returning home and sometimes arriving earlier simply because he misses her has helped make her feel loved over the years.

Benson further encouraged women to communicate their emotional needs to their husbands instead of assuming that men should automatically understand how they want to be treated.

She observed that individuals have different ways of expressing and receiving affection. While some women may appreciate gifts, others may place greater importance on quality time, attention, encouraging words and acts of kindness.

She stressed that building a successful marriage requires commitment from both partners, with husbands making efforts to understand their wives and women feeling comfortable communicating their expectations.

Ultimately, Benson’s position is that a fulfilling marriage goes beyond financial responsibilities and domestic duties. Both partners must demonstrate genuine care, respect and appreciation to maintain a strong and healthy relationship.
