Anti-Immigration Leaders Exposed As Police Catch Marchers With Illegal Gun
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in Muden, in the Midlands, following an operation that uncovered unlicensed firearms and live ammunition.
According to police, the suspects were allegedly involved in ongoing demonstrations against illegal immigration while also being investigated for possible links to organised criminal networks responsible for serious offences, including cash-in-transit (CIT) robberies across the province.
The arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation conducted in the early hours of the morning. Police reportedly received information linking the suspects to criminal activities and armed syndicates operating in the region.
During the operation, officers recovered several firearms, ammunition magazines and other equipment believed to be associated with armed robberies and attacks on cash-in-transit vehicles.
KwaZulu-Natal police management expressed concern about the possible involvement of organised criminal groups in community demonstrations. Authorities believe some criminal elements could be exploiting public protests and immigration-related tensions to conceal their illegal operations.
Police stressed that although peaceful demonstrations are protected by the Constitution, individuals involved in criminal activities will face the full force of the law.
The arrests come as security forces continue strengthening their presence across KwaZulu-Natal amid concerns about violent protests, vehicle burning and disruptions to businesses and public infrastructure.
The four suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in court to face charges relating to the possession of unlicensed firearms and illegal ammunition, as well as possible links to cash-in-transit robberies.
Meanwhile, SAPS Crime Intelligence and specialised tracking teams are continuing their investigations to establish where the weapons originated, identify possible accomplices and determine whether wider organised criminal networks are connected to the activities under investigation.
Police have yet to establish the full extent of the alleged links between the suspects, criminal syndicates and anti-illegal immigration demonstrations.
