Actress Kidbaby Reveals She Worked in a Bar to Fund Her HND Education

Nigerian actress and TikToker Salman Olamide, popularly known as Kidbaby, revealed that she worked in a bar in 2022 to finance her HND education after her family experienced financial difficulties following her father’s accident in 2010, while also sharing childhood misunderstandings with her grandmother, her passion for creative arts, and her strong connection to Ijebu-Ode, where she grew up.

Nigerian actress and TikTok content creator Salman Olamide, popularly known as Kidbaby, has revealed that she worked in a bar in 2022 to raise money for her Higher National Diploma (HND) education. She shared the experience while appearing on Barricades Live with Adewunmi, a podcast hosted by fellow TikToker Wunmi Star.

Kidbaby explained that she faced financial difficulties while trying to fund her education, prompting her to take up the job to cover her academic expenses. According to her, working in the bar was one of the ways she managed to raise the money needed to continue her studies.

The actress also recounted how her family’s financial situation changed dramatically after her father was involved in a serious accident in 2010. She said she grew up in a well-educated Muslim household where the family initially enjoyed financial comfort before the unfortunate incident changed their circumstances.

She explained that her family had previously been financially stable, allowing her to attend a prestigious school and enjoy a comfortable childhood. However, her father’s accident brought unexpected difficulties, forcing the family to adjust to a very different way of life.

Kidbaby also spoke about her childhood relationship with her grandmother, admitting that she once misunderstood the older woman’s behaviour. She said their disagreements over speaking English instead of Yoruba and her preference for eating with cutlery contributed to her childhood belief that her grandmother was a witch.

Speaking about her career, Kidbaby described content creation, storytelling, filmmaking and fashion as creative activities that come naturally to her. She said the online entertainment industry offers opportunities for both enjoyment and financial success, adding that acting has always been an important part of her personality and that she draws inspiration naturally.

The actress also shared her views on cultural identity, explaining that she identifies more strongly with Ijebu-Ode, where she grew up, than with her father’s ancestral hometown. She said she believes a person’s sense of origin should also reflect the place where they were raised, highlighting how her upbringing has shaped her identity and personal experiences.
