Ghana exit U-15 World Cup and Festival after penalty shootout loss to Paraguay
The National U-15 Boys team’s impressive run at the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan has come to an end after a 7-6 penalty defeat to Paraguay.
The quarter-final clash ended 2-2 in regulation time, with Ghana showing great character to force penalties after a hard-fought encounter.
The lads, who had won seven matches in a row — including victories over Korea Republic (2-1) and Mexico (5-2) in the knockout stages — could not hold their nerves in the shootout, with Paraguay converting 7 of their kicks to Ghana’s 6.
It is a painful exit for Ghana, who topped Group W with a perfect record and scored 34 goals in eight matches at the FIFA Talent Development Scheme tournament. Despite the defeat, the National U-15 Boys have made the nation proud with their exciting football and unbeaten run until the quarter-finals.
