Babu Owino Tears Into Geoffrey Mosiria as He Seeks Nairobi Governorship: “Can’t Even Win MCA Seat”

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has ridiculed the political aspirations of former Nairobi County chief officer Geoffrey Mosiria, arguing that a man who was repeatedly reassigned and eventually removed from public service has no business seeking the governorship.

Babu made the remarks during an interview on Thursday, October 29, responding to personal allegations Mosiria had levelled against him regarding children he purportedly fathered outside his known family.

The MP rejected the claims about his family, challenging Mosiria to present the family he had been referring to.

He also declared that Mosiria has no range to be governor.

Mosiria served under Governor Johnson Sakaja since his election in the 2022 general election. The governor appointed him chief officer for Health.

He subsequently moved to the Environment docket, where he gained visibility through active social media engagement on urban cleanliness.

A reshuffle in November 2025 moved him out of Environment and into Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service.

His tenure in that role ended on October 21, when Nairobi County Secretary and Head of Public Service Machel Waikenda issued a circular announcing that Mosiria had been removed with immediate effect, replaced on an acting basis by Zipporah Mwangi.

The dismissal came just ten days after Mosiria formally declared his intention to challenge Sakaja at the ballot.

He made that announcement on October 11 during a church service at Jesus Is Alive Ministries in Nairobi, framing his county experience as the backbone of his candidacy.

Following his removal, Mosiria alleged that the successive transfers had been deliberate demotions, driven by his efforts to hold county officials accountable. Sakaja has maintained that the changes were aimed at improving service delivery.

Babu has been a prominent voice in the Nairobi gubernatorial contest. Having quit the ODM party, he is now pursuing the seat under The Mwananchi Party (TMP) within the Linda Mwananchi formation, having indicated he would run regardless of whether the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) backed him.

In September, he pointed to his work in Embakasi East as evidence of his capacity to lead the capital, pledging to prioritise roads, water, healthcare supplies and prompt salaries for county staff.

He is on record stating that he intends to serve a single term as governor before pursuing the presidency in 2032.

Mosiria has not softened his criticism of Babu either, previously stating that electing the MP would be the worst decision Nairobians could make. Both men are targeting the seat currently held by Sakaja ahead of the 2027 vote.
