Massive Reactions As NPP Breaks Silence on Rumours of Plans to Remove Afenyo as Minority Leader

According to a report by JoyNews on Thursday October 29, 2026, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed claims that there is a plan to change the leadership of the Minority in Parliament.

The party’s National General Secretary, Justin Koduah, addressed the press. He said the party is very happy with the work of the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin. He also stated that no meeting has been called to change the leadership of the “mighty minority” in Parliament. With this, he dispelled the rumours of a Parliamentary reshuffle.

The press conference follows a claim made a day earlier by US-based Ghanaian journalist Kevin Taylor. In a post on social media, he alleged that a decision had been reached for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to remove Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader. He ended his post with the words, “Stay tuned.”

The claim quickly drew attention online. Many people discussed it, and the party’s response has now triggered even more reactions on social media.

Some commenters mocked the situation. One user, Kwame Ahata, joked that Kevin Taylor used to say he was the NPP’s President in the country, and that he now understands him perfectly. Another user, Richmond Omazing Mensah, pointed out that the colours of JoyNews and the NPP are the same.

Other commenters questioned the need for a press conference. Clem Jay Elorm Achisey asked whether the party must organise a press conference for such a matter. Adjanor Humphrey also remarked that the matter had been taken to a press conference.

A few users supported the party’s position. Nabila Justice wrote, “Matter ends,” while Kwame Amankwaa Kyei simply said, “Very good.” Meanwhile, others responded with laughing emojis, while one user asked, “Do we care?”

At the time of this report, there was no official response from Kevin Taylor to the party’s statement. The reactions continue to grow as Ghanaians follow the issue closely.
