Yanga Make Major Decision on Mngqithi Successor as Ramovic Emerges as Top Contender

Tanzanian football giants Young Africans SC, popularly known as Yanga, are reportedly considering a return for former head coach Sead Ramovic as they search for a permanent successor to South African tactician Manqoba Mngqithi.

Ramovic, who previously coached TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership, has emerged as a leading candidate for the position following Mngqithi’s departure from the Tanzanian champions. However, reports have also linked former Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids with the vacancy, meaning the final decision remains an important development to watch.

The coaching situation has attracted considerable attention across African football, particularly in South Africa, where Mngqithi built a reputation through his work with Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.

Yanga parted ways with Mngqithi on October 24, 2026, after a brief spell in charge of the club.

The former Sundowns coach arrived in Tanzania with expectations of maintaining Yanga’s domestic dominance while improving their competitiveness in continental competitions.

Despite making an encouraging start, his tenure ended following a disappointing run of domestic results, including a 2-1 defeat against arch-rivals Simba SC and a goalless draw against TRA United.

Mngqithi departed with an impressive overall record of 10 victories, two draws and one defeat in 13 matches. He also guided the club into the CAF Champions League group stages and won the Tanzanian Community Shield.

Nevertheless, the club’s demanding expectations and the growing pressure in the league title race ultimately overshadowed those achievements.

Ramovic is no stranger to the Yanga environment, having previously managed the club after leaving TS Galaxy in South Africa.

The German-born coach took charge of the Tanzanian giants in November 2024, replacing Miguel Gamondi. His initial performances generated considerable excitement, with Yanga winning their opening six league matches under his leadership.

However, his first spell at the club was relatively short. He departed in February 2025 after receiving an opportunity to coach Algerian side CR Belouizdad.

A potential return would give Ramovic an opportunity to build on his previous experience in Tanzanian football.

His familiarity with the club, its supporters and the competitive demands of the domestic league could prove valuable as Yanga seek stability during another coaching transition.

Ramovic is not the only coach associated with the position. Reports from Tanzania have also indicated that Yanga opened discussions with Fadlu Davids, who previously coached Simba SC.

Davids understands the pressures surrounding Tanzanian football and has experience managing teams competing for domestic honours and continental success.

His potential appointment would offer Yanga another experienced option as the club weighs its next move.

For now, South African coach Simo Dladla has been entrusted with interim responsibilities while Yanga continue their search for a permanent appointment.

The club’s immediate priority is to restore consistency, remain competitive in the league title race and prepare for the challenges of the CAF Champions League.

Although Ramovic has emerged as a prominent contender, his appointment should not be treated as officially confirmed without an announcement from Yanga.
