Bank of Ghana Releases New Exchange Rates: US Dollar Now Buying at GH¢11.62

The Bank of Ghana has released its daily exchange rates for Thursday, 29 October 2026. The rates show how much the Ghanaian cedi is worth against major foreign currencies like the US Dollar, the British Pound, and the Euro. These rates are important because they affect the prices of goods, imports, and travel for everyday Ghanaians.

According to the update, the US Dollar is buying at GH¢11.6200 and selling at GH¢11.6316. This means if you are changing dollars to cedis at a bank, you will get about GH¢11.62 for every dollar, but if you want to buy dollars, you will pay slightly more. The small difference between the buying and selling price is how banks and exchange bureaus make their money.

For the British Pound Sterling, the rate is much higher. The Pound is buying at GH¢15.4569 and selling at GH¢15.4724. The Euro, on the other hand, is buying at GH¢12.9401 and selling at GH¢12.9508. These rates show that the cedi needs more money to match the Pound compared to the Dollar and the Euro, which is useful to know for anyone sending or receiving money from the UK or Europe.

The Bank of Ghana explained that these figures are the average interbank rates used by commercial banks. They are based on transactions at the close of business on Wednesday, 28 October 2026. Interbank rates are the rates banks use when trading foreign currency among themselves, and they give a fair picture of what the market looks like at the end of the day.

For ordinary Ghanaians, these rates matter when planning travel, importing goods, or paying for foreign services like school fees abroad. Knowing the buying and selling rates helps people budget better and avoid being overcharged by money changers. The Bank of Ghana publishes these rates daily to keep the public informed and to promote transparency in the foreign exchange market.
