Ghana Signs Deal With Russia to Recruit Workers for Industrial Jobs in Tatarstan
Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan to facilitate the recruitment of Ghanaian workers for employment opportunities at the Alabuga Special Economic Zone under the Alabuga Start programme.
The agreement was signed between Ghana’s Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment and the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, establishing a framework for cooperation in recruiting Ghanaian citizens for industrial and manufacturing jobs in Russia.
According to a report by MyJoyOnline on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the agreement is intended to expand employment opportunities for Ghana’s youthful population while strengthening cooperation between Ghana and Tatarstan in other areas, including business, academic research and cultural exchanges.
Speaking after the signing ceremony in Russia, Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum said the arrangement would give Ghanaians access to employment opportunities offering competitive salaries, accommodation and residence permits.
He stressed that the government would work to ensure that citizens recruited under the agreement received appropriate jobs, adequate protection and acceptable conditions of service.
“We’re going to make sure that they get the right jobs to do, they are protected, they are being given the right conditions of service,” Agyekum said.
The minister explained that the partnership would extend beyond employment, with plans to explore business opportunities and encourage collaboration between Ghanaian and Tatarstan universities and research institutions.
Ghanaian businesses are also expected to participate in business forums to identify potential partnerships and explore opportunities for commercial cooperation.
The Alabuga Special Economic Zone is a major industrial and manufacturing centre located in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan. The agreement is expected to create a formal channel through which eligible Ghanaian applicants can be considered for available positions.
However, the signing of the agreement does not automatically guarantee employment for every interested Ghanaian. Details concerning the number of workers to be recruited, specific job categories, application procedures, salaries and recruitment timelines will be important as the arrangement moves towards implementation.
