The government had long announced that election day would be a public holiday, paving the way for registered locals to get to the ballots and cast their votes. Given all that, the league was expected to make a prompt decision on the matches scheduled for November. However, according to the website, that call was only made recently.

Sure, it might seem that it will only cost them one day, but with matches coming thick and fast on both domestic and international fronts, they might face a backlog that will require them to rearrange their fixtures.

The league, together with sponsors Carling, made the quarter-final draw for this season’s Carling Knockout Cup. The dates and venues are yet to be confirmed, but according to their full-season roster, the matches were initially scheduled for the weekend of November 6 to November 8, while an alternative date was November 3 for some matches.

Interestingly, Mamelodi Sundowns – who have been drawn against Golden Arrows for the Carling Knockout quarter-finals – will likely see their match rescheduled as they are set to face USM Alger in the CAF Super Cup final at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday, November 8.

The two weeks following that Sunday will belong to the international window, with Bafana Bafana notably set to clash with Kenya in back-to-back 2027 Afcon qualifiers on November 13 and 17, home and away.

Immediately after the Fifa break, the league had scheduled the Carling Knockout Cup semi-finals to take place before the league resumes on November 21.

The league roster is set to be further disrupted by continental and international commitments: Orlando Pirates and Durban City will play in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively, while Sundowns will play in the semi-finals of the Fifa Intercontinental Cup later in the year, forcing more changes to the schedule.
