Policewoman Behind 120-Hour Painting Marathon Reportedly Dies
Lance Corporal Pabby Saraphina, the Ghanaian police officer who attracted public attention with a 120-hour painting marathon in 2024, has reportedly died following a short illness.
She was said to have recently been transferred to Kasoa before falling ill. Details of the illness and the circumstances surrounding her death were not disclosed in the reports.
Saraphina gained recognition in September 2024 when she undertook a five-day painting challenge in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, seeking a Guinness World Record for the longest painting marathon.
The exercise reportedly began on September 20 and ended on September 25, during which she produced 105 paintings inspired by nature and Ghanaian culture. Completing the marathon, however, did not itself establish official Guinness World Records recognition.
Beyond pursuing a record, Saraphina hoped to showcase her talent internationally and encourage more women to pursue careers in art. She had spoken about overcoming doubts from people who viewed the profession as a male preserve.
Her ambition also included establishing a gallery to exhibit her work, reflecting a commitment to art that extended beyond her duties as a police officer.
