The Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded actress Doris Ogala at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of her bail application over alleged cyberstalking, cyberbullying and attempted extortion of Pastor Chris Okafor.
Justice Akintayo Aluko ordered her remand after she pleaded not guilty to three counts filed against her by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The charges border on the alleged publication of the cleric’s intimate photographs, dissemination of electronic messages said to be false, and threats to publish further damaging material about him.
Prosecution counsel, Tolulope Mokolu, alleged that Ogala committed the offences between September 2024 and March 2026.
Mokolu told the court that the actress allegedly published nude and intimate photographs of Okafor on her social media accounts without his consent, exposing him to embarrassment, emotional distress and reputational damage.
The prosecution further accused her of publishing videos, recordings and electronic messages containing information she allegedly knew to be false, with the intention of bullying, threatening, intimidating and harassing the cleric.
According to the prosecution, Ogala also allegedly threatened to continue publishing menacing and intimate material about Okafor unless he compensated her or bought her a house.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 24(1)(a), 24(2)(a) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.
After her plea, Mokolu asked the court to remand the defendant and fix a date for trial. He also told the court that he had only received her bail application on Wednesday and needed time to study it and file a response.
Defence counsel, N. C. Atulomah, opposed the remand request, arguing that the court had the discretion to grant bail.
He urged the judge to release Ogala, stating that she was a governorship candidate of a political party in Abia State and assuring the court that she would attend the next hearing.
Mokolu opposed the request, insisting that he was still within the time allowed to respond to the bail application.
In his ruling, Justice Aluko held that the defence had not placed sufficient material before the court to justify the defendant’s release.
The judge ordered an accelerated hearing of the bail application and remanded Ogala to the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending its determination.
The case was adjourned until October 30, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application.
