Tijaniya Leader Pursues Religious, Economic and Investment Partnerships

The Supreme Leader of the Tijaniya Muslim Council of Ghana (TMCG), His Spiritual Eminence Sheikh Khalifa Ahmed Abul-faid Abdullahi Maikano, has engaged key Malaysian religious, business and halal-sector institutions in a move to deepen cooperation in community welfare, investment, trade and economic empowerment.

The engagements involved Malaysia’s Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) and the Malaysian International Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MIICCI), with discussions centred on practical opportunities to support vulnerable communities, promote Islamic social development and strengthen economic ties between Ghana and Malaysia.

During the October 7 meeting with MAIWP, Sheikh Khalifa and his delegation were received by the Chairman, Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman bin Syed Kabeer, alongside Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia, H.E. Engr. Prof. Dr. Naail Mohammed Kamil.

The discussions covered Islamic affairs management, community development and the role of religious institutions in improving livelihoods. Particular attention was given to the need for religious organisations to complement government efforts by supporting education, skills development, social welfare and assistance for disadvantaged families.

Alhaji Muhammed Muhtari Ibrahim briefed the Malaysian hosts on TMCG’s mission and the work of its Supreme Leader, outlining the council’s activities and its commitment to promoting religious harmony, community service and sustainable development. The delegation also submitted proposals for possible collaboration, which the Chairman undertook to review.

The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen Islamic brotherhood and explore avenues for exchanging knowledge and experience between Ghana and Malaysia. Both sides acknowledged the importance of building institutional relationships that could lead to long-term cooperation in religious administration, charitable initiatives and community-based development programmes.

On October 8, the TMCG delegation held a separate business engagement with MIICCI President Hajj Muhammad Amin Fahmi and his team. Discussions focused on international trade, investment missions, halal commerce and the possibility of creating stronger links between Ghanaian entrepreneurs and Malaysian companies.

The meeting also examined opportunities for Malaysian businesses to explore the Ghanaian market, particularly in sectors connected to halal products, consumer goods, training, agriculture, logistics and community-oriented investments. The participants discussed the importance of establishing reliable partnerships, sharing market information and supporting business delegations between the two countries.

Other participants included Mr. Mokhzani of Halagel (M) Sdn Bhd, a supplier of halal fast-moving consumer goods, including toothpaste, supplements and rock salt, and Mr. Abdul Fazmin of Al Barakah Training Solutions Sdn Bhd, which provides halal consultancy services recognised by Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM).

The participation of companies with experience in halal production and certification added a practical dimension to the discussions. It also highlighted the potential for Ghanaian businesses to benefit from Malaysian expertise in product development, quality assurance, certification and access to international halal markets.

Alhaji Jawad Saeed, the Faila Governor of the Western Region, explored potential business collaborations that could connect Malaysian commercial expertise with opportunities in Ghana. He emphasised the importance of partnerships that would generate employment, support local enterprise and contribute to the economic development of communities.

The delegation expressed the hope that the engagements would progress towards concrete partnerships following the review of its proposals. Such partnerships could create opportunities in education, investment, community development, halal manufacturing, training and economic empowerment.

The meetings formed part of Sheikh Khalifa’s official visit to Malaysia from October 4 to 11, 2026, aimed at building international relationships for the benefit of Ghanaian communities. The visit reflects TMCG’s broader effort to establish partnerships beyond Ghana and mobilise religious, institutional and business support for sustainable community development.

The council is expected to continue discussions with the Malaysian institutions and private-sector representatives as the proposals are reviewed and possible areas of cooperation are identified.
